Secretary (27 April 12)

We are playing golf at Pinherios Altos on Sunday 20 May.  I am paying the green fees today (and yes Ships buggies will be included) but they seemingly have a strict policy of requiring handicap certificates prior to play.  Please can you ensure you bring one with you.

Secretary (24 April 12)

We have decided that jacket and tie will be (even more) ridiculous in Portugal on the Saturday evening so I am pleased to say you can leave them behind.   However, we do wish to maintain our sartorial tradition so will be getting a suitable shirt for evening wear.  From the sizes below, please let me know your neck size by 10ish on Friday morning so we can get the order in as soon as possible.  If you fail to respond, Barnsey and I will guess your size for you.

There is nothing further to report at this stage.

Just for the avoidance of doubt I have assumed that all Serpents will be travelling together and the flights are as follows:

18 May12 ZB580 Manchester 07:25 – Faro 10:25

20 May12 ZB595 Faro 19:45 – Manchester 22:25

Monarch don’t require all the Passport details to be input prior to departure so there is nothing further for you to do.  We have pre-paid for 30 golf bags and 1 hold bag up to 20kg per person.

As some of you will have heard, we have our first hurdle to surmount for our 20th anniversary jolly to Portugal – the hotel we booked the trip with has gone bust!!  However I am pleased to say we had the sense to pay our deposit (approximately £100/head) by credit card and the legal team that represent the society are confident that we will (eventually) get our money back.

Of far greater concern is the state of the trip.  I am delighted to report that Squirrel got in touch with the Val do Lobo Group yesterday afternoon who have come up with an offer which more or less matches the one we had with Barringtons.  The courses and tee times are unaffected – the only change will be where you eventually go to sleep.

I will let you know more next month but I hope whatever fears you had have been allayed.

Secretary (13 April 10)

Morning Gentlemen

With about a month to go, we are now having to pay a number of deposits for the annual jamboree and need to ensure that we do not pay for those who are unable to attend.  Accordingly, if you are not coming or coming but not golfing, please let me know asap.  If you are attending then there is no need to do anything.

Whilst writing, I can confirm that Bullocks have been asked to provide the travel arrangements.  The pick up and drop off will be at RGC as usual and even better Paul (the driver) will be steering us across the border into Wales.

Further details of timings, billets (single room for Frank already booked) etc will be sent nearer the time.

Myles.

Gents

I am delighted to report that the organisation for this year’s festivities has been finalised and we will depart from RGC on Friday 14 May to the sunny climes of Llandudno.

On the way we will stop off to play at the Vale of Llangollen Gold Club before continuing to the Imperial Hotel in the centre of the town on Friday evening.  On Saturday morning, the coach will then take us all down to Harlech to play the Serpent Trophy at the internationally renowned Royal St David’s Golf Club.  The golf on Sunday will be played at Conway which remains one of the most attractive golf courses in the UK.  I hope that we will back in Hale for about 6.30pm at the end of the weekend.

I believe that these 3 courses represent one of the best weekends we have ever put together – let’s hope that the weather is finally kind to us.  The only potential downside of the plan is the accommodation.  As many of you know, we are all barred from the hotel following one or two minor and trivial misdemeanours on the weekend of Ships’ stag do – let’s hope the management has changed since then or we could all be sleeping in the coach …!

Myles.
